Who We Are

Our History

Clarence E. Sharp Company, Georgetown, DE, a propane distribution company, was acquired. Sharpgas, Inc., dba Sharp Energy, was formed to consolidate Chesapeake’s propane distribution operations.

Kellam Energy, Inc., Belle Haven, VA, a propane and oil products distribution company was acquired.

Sharp Energy offices in Easton, Pocomoke City, and Salisbury Maryland and Chincoteague Virginia.

The first underground piped propane system was constructed by Sharp Energy’s parent company, Chesapeake Utilities, in 1996 for the Plantations Development in Lewes, DE to serve 375 homes.

1997 Sheldon Gas Company Tri-County Gas Company, Salisbury, MD and Sheldon Gas Company, Dover, DE, both propane companies were acquired.

The Community Gas Systems division of Sharp Energy was formed in 2002 to provide the conveniences of a metered delivery system to communities where natural gas was not available.

The largest community served by a community gas system is Bayside in Selbyville, DE with 1700 homes and businesses.

A Sharp Energy propane start-up was initiated in Chester County, PA. Office is located in Honey Brook, PA.

Sharp Energy Propane Delivery Tank A Sharp Energy propane start-up was initiated in Allentown, PA. Office is located in Orefield, PA.

The Sharp Energy community gas system strategy was expanded to Pennsylvania.

Sharp Energy community gas systems installed over 2,600 meters for newly constructed homes between 2007 and 2011; an average of over 500 per year.

Sharp Energy, Inc. acquired the operating assets of Virginia LP Gas, Inc. based in Exmore, VA and a propane start-up was initiated in Cecil County, MD.

Sharp Energy introduced the Pink bobtail to the Community, sponsoring the Susan G. Komen Organization.

Sharp Energy, Inc. propane start-up was initiated in the Poconos, PA.

By the end of 2011, Sharp CGS had installed community gas systems in 60 developments serving over 6,500 customers in Delaware Maryland & Pennsylvania.
As of January 2012, the combined storage capacity for all active CGS communities exceeded 622,000 gallons of propane.

Signed up first AutoGas Customer.

Initiated start-up operation in Anne Arundel, MD.

Signed up first Alliance Propane Service Customer BJ’s.
Expanded AutoGas offerings to Jupiter and Jacksonville, FL.
